Will the new charge on building developments in Cornwall affect you?

From January 2019, Cornwall Council is introducing an additional charge on building developments that could have serious financial implications for landowners and developers with plans to build developments. Known as the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), this new charge is based on the floor area of the building being created and, whilst in Cornwall the charge per square metre will be zoned, in high-value areas high costs could be incurred.

If you are planning an application, then it is important to bear in mind any exemptions to the CIL, which include the fact that outline planning permission granted before the New Year will not attract the CIL. This may be an incentive to submit planning applications as soon as possible before January 2019. Our Commercial Property team here at Parnalls Solicitors can help you with your application so do get in touch by calling 01566 772375 or emailing enquiries@parnalls.com
